What am I doing?
I started swimming by myself when I was 3. I have always been comfortable in the water and always enjoyed it. I then began swimming competitively when I was 8 years old. My very first year I won most points in my age group and even earned more than all the other girls on the team, with the exception of a 12 year old. Everyone said I had a natural talent.
Since my first year, I have swam every summer on a swim team and continually improved. I started swimming year-round with the YMCA when I was 10 years old. I practiced 3 days a week through the winter with my team. Although I was practicing and working hard, other kids my age were swimming 5 or 6 days a week. So slowly those kids started beating my times. Those same kids are the ones that are setting the time expectations for regionals.
This blog is about me trying to improve my swimming so I can make an individual event for high school regionals. Right now, I am not doing too well since suffering a shoulder injury. The muscles and ligaments in both of my shoulders are "too loose" and cause pain when I swam. I have been going to a physical therapist to strengthen these muscles and an orthopedist for medical guidance. I was recently told that continuing to swim would cause no damage to my shoulder, so now I can push myself to improve and obtain my goal.
